Holidays in the Uncanny Divide

Aimee was watching Polar Express while I made dinner tonight.

In a movie that is already creepy because of cgi that places the visuals firmly in the uncanny divide, scenes in which the characters bust out in sound (on what should be the very noisy backend of a train) make it even creepier. It’s almost as if we unconsciously expect the embodiment of singing to be more foregrounded than in speech.
